We’re going Behind the Bar with Jess Rehs from The Getaway this week! This boss lady has been with the Getaway since day one and has 10 years bartending experience under her belt. Her favorite drinks to make are daiquiris which go perfectly with the restaurant’s Latin American & Caribbean inspired menu. Jess was kind enough to answer some questions for us about her time behind the bar. Where are you from originally?
That state up north that doesn’t need to be mentioned…
How long have you been bartending and how long at The Getaway?
10 solid years and since day one in November here at The Getaway.
What’s the craziest story a patron has ever told you?
I met a woman who was not allowed to get back on her cruise ship because her passport was in her bag in her room… And she was traveling alone because her husband just died. But first she said he died in his sleep and then later in the conversation it became he fell off of the roof. So I am pretty sure I heard a murder confession!
What’s the strangest drink request you’ve ever gotten?
I worked the Firestone Invitational Golf tournament one summer and I had somebody ask me for a John Daly without the vodka. So I said an Arnold Palmer? And they absolutely refused to accept the name change. “Yeah whatever. I know what I ordered”. Carry on, wise ones.
What’s your favorite drink on the menu?
Lil smoke show is one of my cocktails and also my favorite! I love anything spicy and especially mixed with the smokiness of Mezcal it just works in all the right ways.
What’s your favorite drink to make?
I love messing around with daiquiris. Nothing better than a classic but it’s also great to get some other flavors shaken in.
Any other interesting tidbits you would like to include?
I still don’t think I know what I want to be when I grow up, but as long as that person is a happy, good one I think I will be OK with it.
