Behind the Bar with Kevin Ferrin: Coleman Public House

From their always changing craft beer taps to the parmesan truffle fries, it’s easy to see why Coleman Public House is a local favorite in Mt. Pleasant. We went Behind the Bar at CPH with bartender, Kevin Ferrin this week to learn more about one of our favorite bartenders from one of our favorite spots!

Where are you from originally?
I’m originally from the East End of Long Island, NY. I moved to Isle of Palms in March 2012.

How long have you been bartending and how long at Coleman Public House?
I’ve been bartending for the last 12 years. I’m currently employed by Coleman Public House for 3 years with an amazing team.

What’s the craziest story a patron has ever told you?
Crazy stories for a closing bartender are a daily occurrence, I have always been intrigued by the randomness a night bartender encounters. To much crazy to single just one out.

What’s the strangest drink request you’ve ever gotten?
At a former place of employment a certain someone asked me if they could do the bar mat shot or the “L.A. Freeway” as it’s called. Yeah that happened… (Incase you’re wondering…Bar Mat Shots are made by pouring all the spilled liquor on the bar mats at the end of the night in a shot glass. Yum.)

What’s your favorite drink on the menu?
The Perfect Gin & Tonic is my favorite on my menu, the house made tonic is a beautiful complement to the Botanist Gin.

What’s your favorite drink to make?
I love when someone asks for a Boulevardier (whisky, sweet red vermouth, and campari).

Any other interesting tidbits you would like to include?
Being a bartender in the Charleston area has been a fun experience. I’m always looking for new challenges and love being a part of the wheel in motion. Cheers!
