In honor of National Tequila Day, we’ve picked out our absolute favorite bottles in the store to help you celebrate tequila any day!
Tequila Reposado Corralejo
A great tequila for sipping or mixing. A little pricier than some mid-range tequilas, but definitely worth it.
Distiller’s notes:
Corralejo Tequila has a mild flavour with a strong character. It has a wide range of tones derived from the American oak wood in which it is rested.
The colour of our product denotes great depth compared to the blue of the agave fields, the sky and the sea.”
Tequila Reposado La Gritona
Not only is this an absolutely delicious tequila, the story behind it might be even better. Melly Barajas Cárdenas’ father told her while on vacation he wanted a tequila made in his name. She knew nothing about making tequila, but she literally knocked on doors on various tequila distillers until she found someone to help her fulfill her father’s wish. She ended up falling in love with tequila (and who could blame her) and opened her own distillery, Raza Azteca, in 1999. Best of all, she employees almost entirely females. Girl power.
Distiller’s notes:
“La Gritona is not too sweet, no vanilla, chocolate, or pepper, just refreshing and vegetal agave. The finish is extremely round with no burn.”
Espolòn
Definitely one of the cooler bottles in the store from a strictly visual sense, but Espolòn tastes like it should be on a much higher shelf. The Blanco is great for shaking in to your favorite cocktial, while the Reposado and Anejo are perfect for sipping.
Distiller’s notes:
“All of our tequilas start with Espolòn Blanco. Unaged, Blanco is the purest expression of Espolòn tequila. Created in the famed hills of Los Altos, our Blanco tequila is double distilled using column and pot stills to give it a perfectly smooth and balanced taste profile. Great on the rocks, this is the one you’ll love shaking into all the best tequila cocktails.”
“Our tequila Reposado starts off life as Blanco. It’s then rested in lightly charred, new American oak barrels to create a more complex and well-rounded character uniquely Espolòn. This one begs to be shared in cocktails that deserve even greater tequila character.”
“Our tequila Añejo starts as Blanco and finishes as something entirely unique. First aged in new American oak for 10 months, it’s then placed into deeply charred bourbon whiskey barrels and aged two months longer to create a tequila rich in character with a taste all its own. This one deserves to be sipped, alone or with an ice cube.”
Tears of Llorna
This bottle will set you back about $300, but if you want a religious tequila experience, this is it. There is absolutely no burn, just an indescribably smooth taste that coats your mouth and throat in warm agave, vanilla, and floral flavor. Not entirely sure if this is Tears of Llorna or angels…
Distiller’s notes:
“Bouquet of black cherries, vanilla, honeysuckle and apples, leading to notes of chocolate, toffee and crème brûlée on the palate. Finish is spicy and elegant, with notes of cinnamon and cloves balanced by sweeter touches of raisins, caramel and oak.”
