Listen up, Charleston folks. The Woodruff on Johns Island should be added to that must-try restaurant list you have going. The wine bar offers small plates, diverse wines and creative cocktails, all while offering a friendly, cozy atmosphere.
Co-owners Kayla and Kristin Bennett have a curated menu of sharable small plates with extensive cheese and charcuterie, along with wines by the glass or bottle. While the menu is changing, we caught up with Kayla and Kristin for some of their favorites to look out for.
What is your favorite wine and small plate pairing available at The Woodruff right now?
We love the Nortico Alvarinho paired with our pickled shrimp. The salinity and citrus notes in the wine pair perfectly with the refreshing and light shrimp, all balanced out with a creamy whipped feta. It all comes together to remind you of the ocean.
Are there any wines that you’re excited about or think will be trending this year?
I think people are getting more into the natural wines and old varietals that are starting to pop up again.

What’s your go-to wine under $25?
I could drink the Julien Sunier Morgon everyday… Beautiful gamay that is light and refreshing with nice, silky tannins.
So, if you haven’t checked out this Johns Island hotspot yet, we highly recommend it. Then come on over to Bottles and grab a bottle of your favorite to create your own wine and small plate pairing at home.
